Mitchell is an insurance lawyer with wide experience defending public and product liability claims, as well as professional indemnity disputes. He has a specialised focus on injury liability and contractual liability.
Mitchell has considerable experience in defending claims arising out of recreational activities, educational institutions, mining and construction accidents and in dealing with sensitive matters.
His clients include local and international insurers as well as underwriters, brokers and a broad range of professionals. He has particular experience acting on behalf of large corporate clients who are self-insured or have who high self-insured retentions. He provides policy coverage advice and assists his clients by identifying contractual risks, advising in respect of contractual indemnities, and in the drafting and analysis of their contracts.
Mitchell has broad workers compensation experience as a plaintiff solicitor, and regularly defends contribution claims made by WorkCover Queensland against his clients respect of workplace injuries. He has also acted on behalf of insureds in respect of investigations made by the Department of Education, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, and in respect of potential industrial manslaughter charges.
Mitchell has a Master of Laws from the University of Queensland focussing in civil and commercial litigation, and works with the College of Law mentoring students completing their Practical Legal Training.
Mitchell works closely with his clients to understand and protect their unique interests, and has a commercial and pragmatic approach to resolving their claims.
