James practices across financial lines and casualty, acting for clients in disputes involving professional negligence, personal injury, public liability, negligence, breach of contract, occupiers’ liability, and institutional abuse across Australia. James also regularly advises on coverage and has experience in acting for insurer clients in coverage disputes.
He has over four years’ experience working in personal injury claims for institutional abuse both in-house and in private practice across all Australian jurisdictions. James acts for various organisations including schools, religious organisations and education programs across Australia, both directly and through insurers. He has also been involved in extensive interlocutory litigation for insurer clients in the Supreme Court of Victoria.
Having begun his career in a claims role, James strives to find quick, commercial and efficient outcomes for clients, always keeping in mind the bigger picture and how each matter sits within a wider portfolio of claims.
James is dedicated to the firm’s pro bono practice and has assisted in delivering training across the firm on working with people experiencing vulnerability. He is an advocate for conscious lawyering and the importance of ethical advocacy writing. Outside of private practice, James is a volunteer board member for a specialist community legal centre.
