Helen Tieu

Helen is an insurance law specialist advising insurers on coverage and liability issues arising from directors and officers liability, financial institutions, and professional indemnity claims. She also acts as defence counsel for insureds in relation to these claims, including class actions. Her recent experience includes advising on claims arising from the Royal Commissions into the banking, aged care and disability sectors.

Helen has substantial insurance industry experience, having spent the last decade working in private practice and in-house roles within Australia and overseas. Her background includes working for a Lloyd’s of London syndicate in Sydney and London where she underwrote risks and managed high-profile claims with an in-house team. She was previously seconded to the financial lines claims teams at two multinational insurers.

Helen has appeared before the Supreme Court of New South Wales, the Federal Court of Australia and the High Court of Australia.

Helen contributed to an authoritative industry text entitled “The Global Directors and Officers Deskbook”.
