Gilchrist Connell continues rapid expansion with new Workplace Principals

April 2021

Gilchrist Connell’s national workplace practice has been boosted by the recent arrival of Principal Mark Curran, who has joined its national workplace law / employment practices liability team in Brisbane.

As a highly experienced and senior employment and safety lawyer, Mark Curran is helping meet continued and strong demand from the firm’s insurer and employer clients. He leads an established and busy team in the firm’s fast-growing Brisbane office, along with special counsel Jacob Redden and lawyers Maddison Harrington and Tom O’Donnell.

The practice’s growth has also seen Sarah Wood promoted to Principal in Sydney earlier this year, the appointment of Senior Associate Adriana Reina in Sydney, and Associate Matthew McLean has joined Workplace Principals Philip Duffy, Joel Zyngier and the team in GC’s Melbourne office.

“It’s exciting to see our national workplace law / EPL practice continue to expand and thrive,” said Joel Zyngier, head of the firm’s national workplace group. “Mark’s substantial expertise and approach to client service is an excellent fit with the capability and culture of our high performing team,” he explained.

“The success of the workplace practice mirrors client-driven growth and dynamism across other areas of the business, which has seen a 30% increase in our headcount since December 2020 – across all ranks and all offices,” added Managing Principal Richard Wood.

The workplace team continues to be widely recognised, earning national ‘top ten’ recognition throughout 2020, and national workplace practice head Joel Zyngier was named as the 2020 Workplace Health and Safety Relations Partner of the Year, as well as being listed in The Best Lawyers in Australia for both Labour and Employment Law and Occupational Health and Safety.

The firm was also acknowledged for its own commitment to positive workplace practices in being recognised as a ‘2020 Employer of Choice’ winner.
