Sydney and Adelaide expand senior ranks

Specialist national insurance law firm Gilchrist Connell has just expanded its senior ranks in two offices. In Sydney, two new Senior Associates have joined the firm and a new Associate has started in Adelaide.

Hailing most recently from a global law firm, Senior Associates Malcolm Wood and Chetan Shukla bring expertise in financial institutions, directors’ and officers’ liability and professional indemnity. They have acted in large and complex matters, both domestically and for London Underwriters.  They also have extensive experience in coverage advice and monitoring large disputes on behalf of insurers.

In Adelaide, Associate Zoe Dempster will be highly effective acting in her claims defence role, having cut her teeth on the other side of the fence, representing plaintiffs in a range of compensation claims.

“As we continue to expand, these talented new recruits will help us maintain high levels of service delivery across key practice areas,” said Managing Principal Richard Wood.

Having been a lawyer with Gilchrist Connell earlier in his career, Malcolm returns as a strong addition to the team. His extensive foundation of knowledge and experience in complex litigation has seen him act in a number of multi-million dollar actions and class actions, with a solid appreciation of the nuances and technicalities involved.

In addition to Chetan’s financial lines expertise, he has particular interest in cyber and I & T insurance, having acted for large IT companies in major actions, and provided policy interpretation on cyber and I & T policies. Chetan’s joinder reinforces Gilchrist Connell’s commitment to its growing expertise in cyber insurance.
